New Customer Service desks!

As building work contines on Level 1 of the LRC our new Customer Service desks are now fully operational! They are located by the entrance to the new Campus Centre in order to be more visible for students using that particular route. Staff will be on hand to help with any Library related enquires you may have.

There is also a new Self Service point for checking books in and out which staff will be happy to demonstrate for you. Otherwise check out our 'Just a Minute' video on Self Issue

Finding a PC in the LRC at Park Square

Whilst Registration continues in the IT Suite it can be a bit difficult to find a PC to work on in the LRC.

There are some
PC's on Level 1 Church End by the Customer Service Desk but you''ll find more on Level 2 and 3 Church End and on Level 1 Park Street.

Don't forget you can also use your laptop as the LRC and most of the university has wifi.

Getting Help in the LRC at Park Square

With all the development work going on in the LRC at the moment, we've set up a temporary Customer Service Desk on Level 1.

If you come up to Level 1. walk through the doors and turn right you'll find the Customer Service Desk near the far wall.

You'll also find the Self Issue terminals and catalogues in this area.

There will be lots of disturbance on this floor in the next few weeks as we continue with our improvements to enhance the learning space.

Park Street End of the LRC

The Park Street End of the LRC has re-opened (levels 0 & 1). Access is via the doors from the Social Learning Space on the ground floor.
Customers can once again browse and collect items from the 500 to 999.999 part of the collection and the print Journals.
Print Journals and 900-999.999 items are now in the rolling stack. NB Rolling stack is worth a visit on its own!!
40 + PC's are available for use again.

There is an empty area on level 1 which will be re-developed in the next couple of weeks for the International Office

17 September

The rolling stack is being filled with journals.

We have an installation date for the new Customer Service desk on level 1 Church End.

Things are really starting to take shape trouble is we're at the noisy smelly stage as those customers on level 1 will tell you. In the past week we have been assailed by wafts of varnish, paint and glue each with their own degree of pungency... Hopefully this phase will be over soon.

In the next 2 weeks there will be a lot of disruption on level 1 Church End as the benching in the new pc area is being moved and several partitions are being put in. When its finished their will be a lot more pcs in that area so that's something to look forward to

It's nearly finished!

Well the installation is nearly finished.

As you can see the turning handles are on and the shelves are being fitted. From Tuesday next week we shall start returning the journals and books from their temporary summer home of crates to their new permanent home in the rolling stack.

Carpet going down

Well work is continuing on the rolling stack, the floor has been levelled, tracks installed and now the carpet tiles are going down. It's a bit of a jigsaw according to the fitters but they hope to have it completed by today (Friday).

Customer Service Desk

10 Aug
The Customer Service Desk has moved back to level 1 Church End of the LRC. Level 1 is a more familiar vantage point for enquiries so we hope there isn't too much confusion associated with this move.

We apologise to Customers for the occasional loud drilling, sawing and other noises associated with the building work going on over the summer. It is unavoidable. The good thing is that the building work is on target.

Advanced warning: next week, ie week beginning 16 August, the IT Suite will be used for exams so there will be no access. Wifi is available throughout the building and some pcs will be available on level 1 and levels 2 & 3

All the books have been moved!

Well done to the moving team who've worked solidly for 2 weeks to move all the books in Park Street. We've still got lots to do like boxing all the journals ready for the arrival of our rolling stack, but we are getting there!

Customer Service Desk

While the building work is going on, you can still get help and advice about how to access the resources and services you need. Just go to the Customer Service Desk in the IT Suite which is on the Ground Floor of the LRC as you come in.

Here you will be able to find out the latest on what's available and how the works are going.

Crates, crates and more crates!

Leaning Resources staff (and helpers) are currently working hard to box up thousands of our books and journals. This is to make space for the International office who will be moving in to the building before the beginning of the next academic year. These books will still be accessible but will be able to be found in our new 'rolling stack' shelving system. These will be delivered soon so check back for posts on how they will work in the near future.
